Our world-class services and doctors are always nearby.
The following are a few quick links and tips for you to get started with us.
Establish Primary Care
Primary care is at the center of your healthcare home. Your primary care provider (PCP) is the first medical professional you will consult for most medical problems. In addition, your PCP delivers essential preventive care that can help keep you healthy. We encourage you to take the time to choose a PCP today.
We have more than 250 PCPs for your family to choose from.
When choosing a PCP, consider your own needs and preferences – such as location, or any medical conditions you have that may require specialized treatment. Personal recommendations can also be helpful – for example, asking a colleague who has already received care from a Roper St. Francis Health Alliance provider.
If you need assistance finding a PCP, please contact the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance Customer Service Center at (855) 567-7342
. You can also review all of our PCPs in our online directory

Am I required to see a Primary Care Physician in the Preferred Partnership option?
No. Designating a primary care physician (PCP) is optional. However, because primary care is at the center of your healthcare home we encourage you to select one. This will give you the opportunity to build a long term relationship with a PCP and to ensure better coordination of your care. If you have a PCP that you would like to elect, or need help with researching and learning more about PCPs that fit your needs, please call our Customer Service Center at (855) 567-7342
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
No. You can always self-refer to specialists within the network for in-network level costs. However, it is a good idea to see a primary care physician before seeing a specialist, especially if it is a condition that can be treated at the lower cost primary care level.
However, for any medical service not provided by the RSFHA, a wavier must be completed by a RSFHA provider in order to see that specialist at the highest benefit level. For pediatric specialty services that can’t be provided within the RSFHA network, your RSFHA network pediatrician can refer you to MUSC pediatric specialists to have those services paid at the in-network level.
Otherwise, in the relatively limited circumstances where a particular service does not appear to be available from providers in the RSFHA network, your RSFHA provider can work with RSFHA to determine whether the service can be provided through a non-network provider at the in-network benefit level. If you have any questions about the process, please call our Customer Service Center at (855) 567-7342
What if I travel outside the Charleston area, will I be covered?
If you get emergency care at an ER outside the Charleston area, that will be covered at the in-network level. If you need to use an urgent care facility outside the Charleston area, that will be covered at the in-network level as long as the facility is contracted with BlueCross BlueShield. You can verify the status of an urgent care facility by calling the number on the back of your medical ID card..
If I have a family member who lives outside of the Charleston area, how does that affect their coverage?
The Preferred Partnership option offers medical benefits with any Blue Cross Blue Shield provider, even outside of the RSFHA network. However, the benefit level is different and the amount you’ll pay depends on your situation:
- If you require emergency care, you’ll pay the in-network cost of the service, whether you’re in the Charleston area or not.
- If it’s not for an emergency, you’ll generally pay 40 percent of the cost of the service after you meet the annual deductible in the Traditional Medical Plan and Advantage+ health plan.
Those who select the Preferred Partnership option should seek care within the RSFHA network to receive the highest level of benefit. If your child or family member lives outside of the Charleston area, you should encourage them to seek their primary or specialist care in the RSFHA network when they are in the Tri-county area to receive the highest benefit.
How will the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance ‘better coordinate’ each person’s healthcare?
The Roper St. Francis Health Alliance uses the medical home model, where teams of professionals work in close coordination to manage a patient's healthcare. By implementing evidence-based preventive measures, care teams identify and treat underlying health problems before they become chronic conditions. And with more integrated data and information-sharing, each member of the team also has greater access to the latest information about every patient. This model of care is especially important for patients with chronic conditions – such as heart disease or diabetes – that often require work with multiple specialists. This model enables efficient scheduling and communication with patients, as well.
How is the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance different from the care I’m already receiving through Roper St. Francis?
Boeing employees who are currently seeing one of the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance facilities will continue to receive the same high-quality care they receive today, regardless of the benefits plan chosen. Individuals who select the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance will benefit from access to a family of healthcare experts throughout the Lowcountry. They will also have access to services and benefits, such as:
